The County '16"

The County Challenge is the 34th season. Since 1983 the series has provided the opportunity to participate in quality road races throughout the Aroostook County. The County Challenge series begins in February and ends in November. With the races scheduled in Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, and Houlton.

 

Eight races make up this year’s County Challenge, varying in distances from one to 26.2 miles. Runners accumulate points by competing in races throughout the series.

 

Scoring rules for the County Challenge Series are as follows:

 

- A 10 point scoring system is used in each race. 10 points are awarded to first place, 8 points for second, 7 points for third, and so on. Each runner will receive one bonus point for each race finished.

 

- Age divisions for the series will be 14 and under, 15 to 18, 19 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 and over, and a walkers division.

 

- The overall winners, male and female, as well as the winners in each age division, will be those runner scoring the highest number of points in the eight races with points scored in a minimum of four races required. Awards will be given to the top 2 places in each age group. A runner’s age group is determined by what his or her age is on the day of the first series race he or she runs.

 

The winners in all divisions will be announced at the awards dinner on December 3rd, location to be announces. Participation awards will be given to those who compete in four of eight races.
